Research and Internships: Etelle Stephan ’18: Focusing on Fundraising to Ensure Refugee Rights

As a philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE) major, Etelle Stephan ’18 sought a summer internship that would combine her academic interests. Her search led her to Asylum Access, a nonprofit organization based in Oakland, California, that works to advance refugee rights in their countries of asylum. Asylum Access’ goal is for refugees to live safely, work freely, and have access to education for their children in order to build a better life.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­Presents at Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ in Claremont, Calif., has announced its fall 2017 public events season featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Junot Díaz, musician and author Art Garfunkel, editor-actress-writer-style guru Tavi Gevinson, and writers and scholars Kwame Anthony Appiah, Danielle Allen, Jac Jemc, Carina Chocano, plus concerts showcasing contemporary musicians La Misa Negra, Meklit, and La Victoria.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Academy Celebrates 15 Years, Thanks Donors

Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Academy (SCA), a college access program for high school students who are the first in their families to attend college, celebrated its 15th year at Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ on June 17. This year’s 50 SCA scholars enjoyed the milestone anniversary event and learned about the experiences and perspectives of former program participants, staff, and faculty who came to campus to celebrate. During the dinner program on Elm Tree Lawn, many former students and mentors presented personal stories about how participating in SCA changed the paths and possibilities for their lives.

On a map of students’ past positions posted in the office, she noticed the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), a nonprofit that seeks to protect the environment and promote human rights through legal channels.

Forbes Ranks Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ in America’s Top Colleges: Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­Climbs in Lists for Top 25 Liberal Arts and Western Colleges and Top 50 in the U.S.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ has climbed 24 spots to #16 in Forbes’ Top 25 Liberal Arts Colleges ranking for 2017, up from #40 in 2016. In addition, Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­moves to #8 from last year’s #14 spot on the national publication’s Top 25 Western Colleges list. The College has also placed #43 in Forbes’ ranking of the country’s Top 50 Colleges.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ is featured in The Princeton Review’s 2018 edition of “The Best 382 Colleges.” The annual “Best Colleges” guide offers two-page profiles on each school featured and, rather than rank the colleges academically, presents the top-20 colleges in 62 categories ranging from academics and financial aid to quality of life, career services, classroom experience, and more.
